ROTTERDAM FUTURES

“We realized that our critical approach was holding us back because we focused on problematization. So we moved to a more transformative approach where we could re-imagine the future of smart cities and Rotterdam in a more empowering manner.”

The group was interested in the topic of smart cities, with a particular focus on Rotterdam.

“Most citizens are unaware about the small smart city changes in their environment. Smart cities, in reality, don’t exist just yet. The solutions as well as the problems they might create are still being discovered with every step taken forward. No one can possibly predict what will happen. But this is why we need to have a conversation. As citizens, policymakers, governments – to plan together where our future is headed.”

Rotterdam Futures was composed of eight students, from Codarts (Electro-acoustic Composition, MA Classical Composition), EUR (ESSB – Sociology, ESHCC – IBACS & History, EUC – major Cultural Analysis), WdKA (Audiovisual Design).
